    Get PDF

Crow legt onverenigbaarheid laanbomen in lijst vast

Modelling of air resistance during drying of wood-chips

    Get PDF
The objective of this study was to investigate the parameters that affect the drying process of wood chips at low air flow conditions. This objective was determined by measuring the air pressure resistance being produced by wood chips by examining different variables such as: air flow rate, air velocity, wood chip size, bulk density, bulk height and porosity. The air flow resistance was measured inside a 3 meter high cylindrical air duct constructed at University of Hohenheim. Physical properties of two different Spruce wood chip fractions were analyzed and their characteristics were considered on fitting the model expression. The analysed model expresses the physical behaviour of air flow resistance. Statistical analyses show high correlation of air speed versus air flow resistance. The model could be used for determination of drying conditions with low air mass flow. The height of bulk density according air mass flow generated or the necessary air mass flow needed for transporting air through the bulk height

(2019) Preliminary Results Using a P300 Brain-Computer Interface Speller: A Possible Interaction Effect Between Presentation Paradigm and Set of Stimuli. In: Rojas I., Joya G., Catala A. (eds) Advances in Computational Intelligence. IWANN 2019. Lecture Notes in Computer Science, vol 11506. Springer, ChamSeveral proposals to improve the performance controlling a P300-based BCI speller have been studied using the standard row-column presentation (RCP) par-adigm. However, this paradigm could not be suitable for those patients with lack of gaze control. To solve that, the rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) para-digm, which presents the stimuli located in the same position, has been proposed in previous studies. Thus, the aim of the present work is to assess if a stimuli set of pictures that improves the performance in RCP, could also improve the per-formance in a RSVP paradigm. Six participants have controlled four conditions in a calibration task: letters in RCP, pictures in RCP, letters in RSVP and pictures in RSVP. The results showed that pictures in RCP obtained the best accuracy and information transfer rate. The improvement effect given by pictures was greater in the RCP paradigm than in RSVP. Therefore, the improvements reached under RCP may not be directly transferred to the RSVP.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech

Neural correlate of the construction of sentence meaning

    Get PDF
The neural processes that underlie your ability to read and understand this sentence are unknown. Sentence comprehension occurs very rapidly, and can only be understood at a mechanistic level by discovering the precise sequence of underlying computational and neural events. However, we have no continuous and online neural measure of sentence processing with high spatial and temporal resolution. Here we report just such a measure: intracranial recordings from the surface of the human brain show that neural activity, indexed by γ-power, increases monotonically over the course of a sentence as people read it. This steady increase in activity is absent when people read and remember nonword-lists, despite the higher cognitive demand entailed, ruling out accounts in terms of generic attention, working memory, and cognitive load. Response increases are lower for sentence structure without meaning (“Jabberwocky” sentences) and word meaning without sentence structure (word-lists), showing that this effect is not explained by responses to syntax or word meaning alone. Instead, the full effect is found only for sentences, implicating compositional processes of sentence understanding, a striking and unique feature of human language not shared with animal communication systems. This work opens up new avenues for investigating the sequence of neural events that underlie the construction of linguistic meaning.United States. Assessment of Biosignals for Managing a Virtual Keyboard

    Get PDF
In this paper we propose an assessment of biosignals for handling an application based on virtual keyboard and automatic scanning. The aim of this work is to measure the effect of using such application, through different interfaces based on electromyography and electrooculography, on cardiac and electrodermal activities. Five people without disabilities have been tested. Each subject wrote twice the same text using an electromyography interface in first test and electrooculography in the second one. Each test was divided into four parts: instruction, initial relax, writing and final relax. The results of the tests show important differences in the electrocardiogram and electrodermal activity among the parts of tests.Junta de Andalucía p08-TIC-363

A Prolyl Endopeptidase from Flammulina velutipes Degrades Celiac Disease-Inducing Peptides in Grain Flour Samples

    Get PDF
Celiac disease (CD) is an inflammatory disorder of the small intestine. Gluten peptides are supposed to be responsible for the reaction, the best-researched of which is the so-called ‘33-mer’. Analogous peptides in secalins (rye) and hordeins (barley) have been described. This study presents the degradation of gliadins, glutenins, hordeins and secalins purified from the respective flours using a prolyl endopeptidase from the Basidiomycete Flammulina velutipes (FvpP). The flour fractions were incubated with the enzyme, and the cleavage sites were determined using high-resolution nLC-qTOF-MS/MS. For the wheat samples, eight cleavage sites in the 33-mer peptide were shown, and all of the six described epitopes were successfully cleaved. For the commercially available prolyl-specific endopeptidase from Aspergillus niger (An-Pep), which was used as a control, only two cleavage sites that cleaved three of the six epitopes were identified. For the secalins, four prolyl-specific cleavage sites in the CD-active peptide QPFPQPQQPIPQ were found for the FvpP but none for the An-Pep. The CD-active peptide QPFPQPEQPFPW in C-hordein was cleaved at three prolyl-specific positions by the FvpP. The study proves the usability of FvpP to degrade CD-inducing peptides in real-grain flour samples and indicates its higher effectiveness compared with An-Pep. A clinical study would be required to assess the therapeutic or preventive potential of FvpP for CD
